The Federal Government has approved a new identity verification service developed by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to enhance the safety and efficiency of confirming individuals’ identities using their National Identification Number (NIN).

This was announced on Tuesday in Lagos by NIMC’s Head of Corporate Communications, Kayode Adegoke, through an official statement.

Adegoke noted that the Presidency has directed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to adopt the new NIN Authentication service for conducting identity checks.

He added that the initiative aligns with NIMC’s mandate to provide a secure and trustworthy digital identification system for Nigerians and legal residents.

The new service, called NIN Authentication, can be used through the web, mobile apps, or API. It helps protect people’s data, ensures privacy, and makes it easier to use government services.

“This supports President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to improve how identities are managed in the country,” he said.

The NINAuth application is the official tool for connecting with NIMC’s database.

It adds a strong layer of protection and gives people more control over their personal information.

It also requires users to give permission before their data is used for services like Know Your Customer or other checks.

Adegoke said the platform encourages trust and allows people to manage how their information is shared.

People can safely confirm their identity and use NINAuth to access services including bank transactions, passport applications, SIM replacement, SIM registration, and tax filings.

Additionally, it will be utilized for official procedures such as driver’s license renewals and government assistance programs.

He went on to say that the service offers a number of advantages, including increased security, defense against unauthorized access to personal information, and the ability to manage data-sharing preferences.

By using a single sign-on feature, NINAuth also provides simple and safe access to a variety of services.

According to Adegoke, the introduction of NINAuth demonstrates NIMC’s ongoing endeavors to enhance identity verification in Nigeria.

Through API interaction, the platform is designed to be safe, adaptable, and interoperable with other systems.

It makes it possible to verify NIN records in real time, which enhances service delivery and adherence to national identity regulations.

According to him, NINAuth is now the recognized platform for all NIN-based identification checks.
