POLICE NAB SEVEN ROBBERY SUSPECTS, SEIZE 14 MOBILE PHONES IN SULEJA
The Niger State Police Command has apprehended seven suspects in connection with a robbery that occurred on May 1, 2025, at the APC Quarters in Suleja, during which victims were dispossessed of mobile phones and other personal belongings.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the arrests in an official statement, noting that all suspects are residents of the Galadima area in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Abiodun explained that after receiving a report about the incident, officers from the ‘B’ Division in Suleja, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), responded swiftly to the scene. A 16-year-old suspect, Mubarak Mohammed, was apprehended after a brief chase.
During interrogation, Mubarak reportedly admitted to participating in the armed robbery and revealed that he belongs to a 13-member criminal gang.
“He led operatives to the arrest of other six members of the syndicate,” he revealed.
The arrested suspects include Ibrahim Mohammed (20), identified as the gang leader, along with Abdullahi Yakubu (18), Mohammed Abubakar (18), Nasiru Musa (17), Shamsudeen Musa (18), and Ahmed Ali. All are residents of the Galadima area in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, a search of the gang’s hideout—located under a mango tree along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway—resulted in the recovery of six cutlasses, three torchlights, charms, 14 mobile phones, and four bags.
The suspects remain in custody and will be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further investigation and eventual prosecution.
Abiodun also reported that seven kidnap victims were rescued on May 3, 2025, following a joint operation by police personnel and local vigilante groups in Mashegu.
He noted that around 5:00 p.m. that day, the team tracked the kidnappers to a forest near Tungan-Boka village, where they engaged the criminals in a gun battle, successfully securing the victims’ release.
“Unfortunately, one Garba Mohammed was shot dead during the attack,” the PRO revealed.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing miscreants.
