
SENATE FORMS 18-MEMBER COMMITTEE TO MONITOR RIVERS STATE SOLE ADMINISTRATOR
The Nigerian Senate has established an 18-member committee to supervise the activities of the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.).
Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the development during Tuesday’s plenary session, explaining that the move aims to enhance transparency and accountability in the state’s governance.
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has been appointed to chair the committee. Akpabio emphasized the significance of the committee’s mandate, calling it essential to ensuring robust legislative oversight in Rivers State.
He also noted that the committee’s composition could be reviewed following additional consultations.
Akpabio urged the members to begin their oversight work immediately, underlining the urgency of the assignment and the Senate’s dedication to protecting democratic values in the state.
The committee comprises Senators Adamu Aliero, Osita Izunaso, Osita Ngwu (South East), Kaka Shehu, Aminu Abass, Tokunbo Abiru, Adeniyi Adebire (Ondo), Sani Musa, Simon Lalong, Asuquo Ekpeyong, Adams Oshiomhole, Ireti Kingibe (Labour Party), Onyekachi, Idiat Adebule, Ide Dafinone, and Mohammed (APC, Jigawa), along with the Clerk of the Senate.
