REPS CALL ON FG TO MAKE PROVISION FOR FREE CANCER SCREENING
The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to make cancer screening free for Nigerians.
This resolution followed a motion moved on Wednesday by Hon. Adeyemi Oseni, who highlighted the urgent need to reduce the high cost of cancer treatment in the country.
Oseni expressed concern over the rising number of cancer cases, citing reports that around 125,000 Nigerians were diagnosed with the disease in 2020 alone.
As part of the resolution, the Committee on Healthcare Services has been tasked with working alongside the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, as well as other relevant agencies, to develop a framework for subsidising cancer treatment and related medications in order to ease the burden on patients.
