‎The national leadership of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Nigeria has suspended the Chairperson of its Rivers State Council over alleged misconduct and disregard for the organisation’s authority.

‎The suspension was announced in a letter jointly signed by TUC National President Festus Osifo and Secretary General Nuhu Toro. According to the letter, the Chairperson granted media interviews without the consent of the National Secretariat, despite having received a query on June 20, 2024, to which he responded with an apology.

‎However, the TUC deemed his response unsatisfactory and noted that he continued making public statements that were considered inflammatory and damaging to the union’s reputation.

‎The letter, addressed to the State Vice Chairperson, Hassan Anka, stated that the Chairperson’s conduct had compelled the Congress to re-evaluate his role and involvement within the union.

‎Consequently, he has been relieved of his duties as Chairperson of the Rivers State Council, effective from the date of receipt of the letter, pending further notice.
