In Obete Nchina village, Ntighauzo community, Obingwa LGA of Abia State, a guy named Chinazum Ubani was arrested by the police for reportedly cutting a 14-year-old girl named Miss Anaba with a machete after an attempted rape.
The perpetrator allegedly carried out the attack when the female victim was out gathering firewood with her age group in the bush.
According to the victim’s father, Mr. Chijioke Anaba, who verified the assault on his daughter, the suspect tried to rape his daughter but the young girl fought, leading to the machete attack.
Mr. Anaba, who claimed that the suspect had previously left the scene of the attack, added that his family had become aware of the strange behavior of her daughter’s friends who had escaped from the woods. He explained that the villagers had organized and invaded the bush where the girl was saved.
He further affirmed that the suspect had been taken into custody by the Eastern Ngwa Police Division, but he insisted that the alleged rapist, who lives in the same community as him, be charged with the crime instead of being freed.
The girl’s father, who maintained that Mr. Chinazum Ubani, the culprit, is not mentally ill as he claims, warned that if he is freed, he will assault the victim again.
“They have arrested the suspect, but from what’s happening, I am afraid that Chinazum may be released from detention to continue his attack and kill my daughter.
“The police should do their job because the boy is now a risk to the people in the village. The Police are saying he is a mad man but it’s not true,” he said.
He urged Abia First Lady, Mrs Priscilla Otti, to intervene in the case of his daughter who is now agonizing in pain in the hospital.
