NIGERIAN WORKERS STAGE PROTEST AT MINISTRY OF FINANCE OVER UNPAID ALLOWANCES
By: Motunrayo Aniwura
Nigerian workers, represented by the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), held a protest on Tuesday at the Federal Ministry of Finance headquarters in Abuja to demand the payment of overdue allowances and other financial entitlements.
Although the protesters did not grant interviews, they displayed placards expressing their dissatisfaction with the unpaid arrears owed to ministry staff.
A civil servant at the ministry confirmed that the demonstration disrupted access to the premises during the protest.
“You can see that our office has been blocked. We don’t even know the full reason yet,” the staff member said.
The Federal Ministry of Finance has not issued an official statement regarding the protest or the specific demands of the workers as at the time of filing this report.
