Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, in a coordinated tactical operation led by the Scorpion Squad, have dismantled a seven-member gang notorious for armed robbery and carjacking.

This was revealed in a statement on Tuesday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh.

According to the statement, the gang had been under surveillance due to a series of armed robbery and vehicle theft cases linked to their network across the FCT.

Acting on credible intelligence that the syndicate was planning an attack in the Maitama area on Monday, May 19, 2025, police operatives moved swiftly and intercepted the suspects earlier, on May 15, 2025.

Upon sighting the police, the gang opened fire, leading to a fierce gun battle. During the exchange, one of the suspects, Abdulmininu Bello, also known as Babanle, was killed.

Eight other members of the gang were arrested at the scene. They include Ibrahim Muhammad; Abubakar Abdullahi, an ex-convict from Kebbi State; Sarajo Yusuf and Abubakar Sani from Plateau State; Isiaka Adamu, another ex-convict from Bauchi State; Abdullahi Isah, an escaped detainee from Bauchi; and Sanusi Ali from Kano State.

However, the gang’s leader, Solomon Bawa, also known as Pastor Mogu, and one other suspect managed to escape with gunshot wounds.

“The FCT Command calls on members of the public who may have come across anyone with suspicious injuries to report the same to the Police for prompt investigations.

“All suspects are currently in Police custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.

“Exhibits recovered from the scene include: a 2004 Toyota Camry LE, one red boxer motorcycle, two locally made pistols with ten rounds of live 9mm ammunition, four AK47 rifles and magazines, eleven (11) rounds of live 7.62 ammunition and one locally made shotgun,” the statement added.
