American R\&B star Chris Brown has been granted bail in an assault case, with a £5 million surety required by a UK court.
The 36-year-old Grammy winner was released on Wednesday and is allowed to continue his international tour, which is set to begin on June 8 in Amsterdam.
The judge stated that if Brown fails to return to the UK for his scheduled concerts starting June 15, the £5 million bail will be forfeited.
Brown, who did not appear in court for the bail hearing, is also scheduled to perform at various locations in Europe—including France—and in the United States throughout 2025.
He was charged last week with “grievous bodily harm with intent” in relation to an assault in which the victim was allegedly struck several times with a bottle before being pursued and punched and kicked.
The alleged assault reportedly occurred at a nightclub in Hanover Square, London, on February 19, 2023, while Chris Brown was on tour in the UK.
Police later arrested him in the early hours of May 13 at a luxury hotel in Manchester, after he had allegedly arrived on a private jet.
During the bail hearing at Southwark Crown Court in London, Judge Tony Baumgartner ruled that Brown could be released on bail but must surrender his passport when not travelling.
The judge also ordered that the singer reside at an address known to the court and barred him from visiting the nightclub involved in the case or contacting the alleged victim, Abraham Diah.
Brown and his co-defendant, American citizen Omololu Akinlolu, are both facing charges of grievous bodily harm with intent and are scheduled to appear in court again on June 20.
