Napoli have set their sights on Nigerian international Ademola Lookman as a top attacking target ahead of the summer transfer window, but face a major hurdle in Atalanta’s €50 million valuation of the forward.
According to Italian daily Il Mattino, the Partenopei are preparing a formal bid for the 26-year-old Super Eagles star, as newly appointed sporting director Giovanni Manna spearheads a €200 million squad rebuild in preparation for the club’s return to the UEFA Champions League.
Lookman’s stock has soared after his sensational hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League final helped Atalanta secure their first-ever European title. The versatile forward capable of playing both on the wing and through the middle—is viewed as a potential replacement for Napoli’s talisman, Victor Osimhen, who is widely expected to depart this summer.
“An attempt for Lookman will be made,” Il Mattino wrote, noting that “Atalanta ask for at least €50 million.” The report also highlights that Atalanta are unwilling to entertain any offers below their valuation, meaning Napoli must dig deep to land their man.
Osimhen’s future remains a key factor in Napoli’s summer plans. With strong links to Juventus and interest from abroad, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is reportedly wary of the striker showing up at the club’s pre-season camp in Dimaro with his situation unresolved.
“There’s concern over the possibility of Osimhen joining Juventus, especially with his desire to reunite with Cristiano Giuntoli,” Il Mattino reported. A potential sale of the Nigerian striker could free up crucial funds to secure Lookman and other targets.
Napoli’s transfer activity is already well underway. The club has finalized the signing of Luca Marianucci from Empoli for €9 million and is pushing to land Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Georgiy Sudakov, valued at €40 million. Talks are also advancing for Spanish left-back Miguel Gutiérrez, although Juventus are also monitoring the player.
Meanwhile, Napoli are said to be awaiting a swift decision from Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, another high-profile target in their ambitious summer overhaul.
With the Champions League beckoning, the Naples-based giants are gearing up for a transformative window one in which Ademola Lookman could play a central role.
