A tragic incident occurred along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in Alakuko, Lagos, as a 60-year-old motorcyclist, Wasiu Babatunde Adeniran, was swept away by floodwaters during a heavy downpour.

According to reports received by the police at about 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, the victim lost control of his motorcycle around 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, while riding through the storm. He was dragged by the raging flood along with his motorcycle.

The motorcycle was recovered by 6:00 p.m. on the same day, but a search for Adeniran continued until the following morning. His lifeless body was found at the Obasanjo River in Ota, Ogun State, around 9:00 a.m. on May 21.

Police detectives visited the scene, documented the recovery with photographs, and transferred the corpse to a public morgue for autopsy. Authorities have confirmed that investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The case highlights growing concerns over the dangers posed by poorly drained roads and extreme weather conditions in the region, especially during the rainy season.
