President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Yazid Shehu Umar Danfulani as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC).
The appointment, effective from May 21, 2025, was confirmed in a letter dated May 22, 2025, and signed by Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation. It is for an initial four-year term, in line with Section 15(a) of the NAIC Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
Danfulani, who holds the traditional title of Turakin Zamfara, is expected to bring renewed energy and strategic leadership to NAIC—an institution tasked with insuring Nigeria’s agricultural sector against risks like drought, pests, diseases, and natural disasters.
An experienced banker and administrator, Danfulani earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Arts and Management from the University of Hertfordshire in the UK. His career includes positions at the Central Bank of Nigeria and as Zamfara State’s Commissioner for Commerce and Industry.
According to the appointment letter, Akume noted that Danfulani’s emoluments and conditions of service would be guided by the provisions of the “Certain Political, Public and Judicial Office Holders (Salaries and Allowances, etc) (Amendment) Act, 2008”.
His appointment has been widely applauded as a recognition of Danfulani’s leadership qualities, technical expertise, and commitment to national development.
He is expected to focus on strengthening the insurance framework for Nigerian farmers, expanding access to agricultural insurance, and ensuring NAIC plays a key role in the country’s food security strategy.
