The Anambra State Police Command, in a joint security operation, has destroyed a local bomb factory and demobilised several improvised explosive devices (IEDs) at a secessionist hideout in Isseke, Ihiala Local Government Area.

The operation, carried out on Saturday, May 24, 2025, involved personnel from the police, military, and the Anambra State Vigilante Service. It targeted what authorities described as one of the last remaining strongholds of a secessionist group responsible for a series of violent attacks in the region over the past two years.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Command’s spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the hideout had long served as a base for launching deadly operations and had proven difficult to penetrate until now.

Ikenga confirmed that the security team successfully destroyed the bomb-making facility and recovered a cache of assorted locally fabricated IEDs, which were promptly demobilised.

He noted that the raid is part of an intensified effort by security agencies to rid the state of criminal elements and restore peace to communities previously under the threat of insurgent activities.

The Command reiterated its commitment to sustaining pressure on criminal networks and urged residents to continue supporting security efforts by providing timely and credible information.
