The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two key suspects linked to the horrific murder of a young woman from Nasarawa State, whose body was brutally set ablaze in the Gangare slum near the canal behind Mile 12 Market on May 24, 2025.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the crime was premeditated and driven by a failed romantic relationship. The victim, who lived in the slum with northern relatives, had reportedly ended a relationship with her boyfriend. The suspect, now on the run, is alleged to have conspired with others to forcefully bring her back into the relationship. This led to her being ambushed, killed, and her body set on fire.

The police have firmly dismissed rumours and misinformation suggesting the murder was linked to blasphemy or ethnic violence. Authorities confirmed that the victim was from Nasarawa State, not of Yoruba descent, and that her death had no religious or ethnic undertones.

The two suspects in custody are currently being interrogated at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) as police intensify efforts to apprehend the fleeing boyfriend and other accomplices. The Command has assured the public of a thorough and conclusive investigation, pledging that all perpetrators will be brought to justice.

Normalcy has since returned to the Mile 12 area, with no recorded threats of reprisal attacks or ethnic unrest. Residents are urged to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and go about their lawful activities without fear.

The Lagos State Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents and promised to keep the public informed as the investigation progresses.
