Agency report

A high-level coalition meeting involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and others was thrown into disarray after delegates from Jigawa State disrupted the session.

The meeting, hosted at the Abuja Continental Hotel by the National Political Consultative Group (North), was momentarily halted due to a disagreement over who should represent Jigawa State.

Tensions flared when former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, introduced a delegate to speak on behalf of the state.

In response, several Jigawa delegates stormed the stage, preventing the individual from addressing the gathering and insisting they rejected the appointed representative.

As tensions heightened, security operatives—including members of the Nigerian Police, DSS, and private security—swiftly intervened, forming a protective shield around prominent figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, and others.

Order was eventually restored following minutes of mediation and appeals, after which Mustapha Lamido, son of former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, along with another delegate, was selected to represent the state.
