In a recent statement, Wike expressed his disagreement with NEMA regarding the nature of the explosion in Abuja, categorically declaring that it was not an attempted suicide bombing.

During an inspection of ongoing projects in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Wike addressed an incident involving an explosive that detonated after being stolen from a quarry by an uninformed individual. He emphasized that Abuja remains the safest location in Nigeria and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining this safety. This statement contrasts with a report from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), which indicated that the explosion was caused by an individual with an improvised explosive device attempting to enter an army cantonment. The blast, which occurred on Monday at a bus stop along the Mararaba-Nyanya Expressway, resulted in one injury.

A thorough investigation has been initiated by the police, which includes forensic analysis to determine the specifics of the explosion. According to NEMA’s statement on Tuesday, the incident was a result of a suicide bomber with an improvised explosive device (IED) attempting to infiltrate the Mogadishu army cantonment. The explosion was reported at approximately 1:47 pm on Monday.

A response team was promptly deployed following an incident involving a suicide bomber at a barrack. The bomber, attempting to gain access, detonated an improvised explosive device (IED), resulting in his immediate death and injuring one passerby. The Nigeria Police Force’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit assisted in evacuating the injured individual to the National Hospital and secured the scene for further investigation, concluding operations at 5:29 PM. Present at the scene were representatives from various stakeholder agencies, including NEMA, the military, NPF, DSS, and FRSC.
