The Ondo State Police Command on Thursday said it had arrested no fewer than 46 youths over an alleged cult clash which occurred in Ondo town on Tuesday evening.

No fewer than four persons were killed in a clash between rival cult groups in the town during the clash.

During the clash, it was gathered that the deceased were shot around Ife Garage, Sabo, and Christ Land in the Oka area of the town by masked men suspected to be members of a rival cult group.

It is learnt that three members of the Ẹiyẹ confraternity were shot dead in the bloody clash at Ife Garage, while one was killed at the Sabo area of the ancient town.

Speaking on the development, on Thursday, the Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed that the suspects were arrested during the raid of some areas in the town by the men of the command.

Ayanlade stated, “Desperate times require desperate actions. Anyone arrested during the raid has one or two things to do with the clash. Forty-six suspects were arrested with firearms and ammunition in their hideouts in the town.”

Ayanlade also noted that efforts were ongoing to arrest others, appealing to the people to cooperate with the command.

“We want the people of Ondo town and Ondo State generally to remain law-abiding and cooperate with the police. We will not rest until we arrest the remaining people who are responsible for the crisis,” he said.
