The Anambra State Police Command has intensified security patrols and deployed personnel across key areas of the state ahead of the May 30 sit-at-home order declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to commemorate Biafran heroes of the 1967–1970 Civil War.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the deployment follows a strategic meeting of Anambra’s Security Service Commanders and is aimed at safeguarding critical national infrastructure and maintaining peace and order.
The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, reportedly commended the growing collaboration between law enforcement and Anambra residents in rejecting threats to national peace, adding that this collective resolve has strengthened security efforts across the state.
Joint security forces now patrolling strategic locations include the Nigeria Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and units from the Nigerian Army and Navy.
Major towns like Awka, Onitsha, Nnewi, Ihiala, and Oraifite are among the areas witnessing increased security presence, with officers taking positions at critical junctions to deter potential criminal activities.

“This demonstrates the commitment of the security agencies to maintaining security and order,” Ikenga said. “Their heightened presence aims to reassure the public and provide a safe environment for citizens and visitors alike.”
The Police Command urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity by contacting its control room via 07039194332 or the PPRO on 08039334002, or by reaching out to local area commanders and divisional police officers.
