The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has publicly acknowledged and apologized for the delay in administering the English Language Paper 2 of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.

In a statement issued by the Council’s Public Affairs Department and signed by Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs, WAEC explained that the disruption was primarily caused by efforts to prevent examination malpractice and leakage of question papers.

“While we successfully achieved our objective, it inadvertently impacted the timeliness and seamless conduct of the examination,” the statement read.

The Council cited logistical issues, security concerns, and sociocultural factors as key hurdles that complicated the smooth execution of the examination schedule. WAEC assured stakeholders that it is working closely with security agencies to prevent similar disruptions in future examinations.
