
INEC FIXES DATES FOR EKITI, OSUN STATE GOVERNORSHIP ELECTIONS

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the governorship elections for Ekiti and Osun states to take place on Saturday, June 20, 2026, and Saturday, August 8, 2026, respectively
INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu announced the electoral timeline for Ekiti State during the swearing-in of six new Resident Electoral Commissioners. The election is scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026. Party primaries will commence on October 20, 2025, and conclude on November 10, 2025, after which political parties must submit their nomination forms by 6:00 PM on December 22, 2025. The final list of candidates will be published on January 18, 2026, and official campaign activities will take place from January 21 to January 19, 2026, one day prior to the election.
The election in Osun State is scheduled for Saturday, 8th August 2026. Party primaries will take place from 24th November to 15th December 2025. Political parties must submit nomination forms by 6:00 PM on 9th February 2026, which is within 180 days of the election. The final list of candidates will be published on 9th March 2026, and public campaigning will begin on 11th March 2026, concluding 24 hours prior to the election.
