Nigeria’s Super Falcons have booked their place in the final of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) following a thrilling 2-1 victory over South Africa’s Banyana Banyana on Tuesday.

In a high-stakes semi-final clash filled with intensity and drama, the Falcons opened the scoring in the 45th minute after Rasheedat Ajibade coolly converted a penalty, giving Nigeria a 1-0 lead at halftime.

South Africa were dealt an early blow in the 26th minute when star striker Hildah Magaia was forced off due to injury and replaced by Thubelihle Makhubela. Despite the setback, Banyana Banyana came out stronger in the second half and drew level in the 60th minute with a penalty goal from Linda Motlhalo.

As the match appeared destined for extra time, Nigeria struck a dramatic late winner in the 94th minute, courtesy of Michelle Alozie, who finished off a clever assist from Esther Okoronkwo.

Both teams made tactical substitutions that intensified the tempo, but it was the Super Falcons who displayed greater composure and resilience in the closing moments.

The result secures Nigeria’s spot in the WAFCON final as they continue their quest for yet another continental crown, reaffirming their status as the most successful team in African women’s football.
