The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of the Independence Day parade earlier scheduled to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

The decision was disclosed in a statement on Monday by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

While no reason was given for the cancellation, Imohiosen stressed that the move “is in no way a diminishment of the significance of this milestone anniversary.”

He assured that other programmes lined up for the celebration themed “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation” would still hold as planned.

“The Government deeply regrets any inconvenience caused by this cancellation,” the statement read, while urging Nigerians and members of the diplomatic community to continue supporting the reform agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Federal Government had earlier declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, a public holiday in commemoration of the anniversary.
