NRC ANNOUNCES RESUMPTION OF ABUJA-KADUNA TRAIN SERVICES OCTOBER 1
By Aishat Momoh. O.
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that passenger services on the Abuja-Kaduna corridor will resume on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, with a new timetable for operations.
The service was suspended following the August 26 incident that disrupted operations and reignited concerns about passenger safety along the route.
Chief Public Relations Officer of the NRC, Callistus Unyimadu, confirmed the resumption in a statement on Sunday, describing it as part of the corporation’s commitment to providing Nigerians with reliable and secure rail transport.
According to the new timetable, trains from Abuja will depart Idu at 8:45 a.m., stop at Kubwa at 9:05 a.m., and arrive at Rigasa, Kaduna, at 12:42 p.m. For the Kaduna-Abuja route, trains will leave Rigasa at 2:30 p.m., stop at Kubwa at 6:02 p.m., and arrive at Idu at 6:23 p.m. Wednesdays have been designated for maintenance.
Unyimadu added that passenger welfare remains a priority, noting that of the 583 passengers on board during the August 26 accident, 530 were contacted by phone and 512 had received refunds. He further disclosed that all 22 injured passengers were reached, with many receiving visits from NRC’s medical team.
“To cushion the effects of the incident, the 22 injured passengers will enjoy one free ride per week until December 31, 2025,” he said. “In addition, all 618 passengers on board that day will be entitled to one free ride before December 31, 2025.”
The NRC thanked passengers for their patience during the suspension and urged continued cooperation with its new safety measures, pledging to deliver safe, affordable, and efficient rail services that support national connectivity and economic growth.
