
LAGOS STUDENTS SHINE AT STEM COMPETITION, RECEIVE N8 MILLION CASH IN SCHOLARSHIP
… As LASG Partners State Lottery, Gaming Authority To Promote STEM Education
The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MB&SE) has partnered with the Lagos State Lottery and Gaming Authority (LSLGA) to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education in Lagos State. This partnership aims to encourage students to develop skills in STEM subjects and prepare them for future careers in these critical areas.
The partnership, which brought together and registered 954 students from senior public schools across the State to compete in a series of challenging STEM-related questions and activities, was marked by the successful conclusion of the #Greater Lagos STEM Quiz Competition, organised by the two Agencies with several stages, comprising: Online Stage: 702 students took part at this stage and answered 50 questions drawn from biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, physics, and technology. This stage qualified 307 students who scored 52% for the Pen-on-Paper Stage, which further produced the best 105 students who were invited to a Computer-Based Test (CBT) and 30 students qualified for the studio stage of the competition.
The studio stage included a Fastest Finger Quiz Competition conducted using the Kahoot platform. The top 12 students advanced to the final round, from which the top 6 students were identified based on their total score performance.
The top 6 finalists are: Godspower Ezekiel – Alimosho Senior Grammar School, Alimosho – District 1, (received 5 Million in Scholarship); Gabriel Aleghemeh – Keke Senior High School Agege – District 1, (N2 Million in Scholarship); Jeremiah Muyideen – Ilogbo Elegba Senior Grammar School, Ilogbo – District V, (1 Million in Scholarship); while Anofi Waliylahi, Olabiyi Oluwaferanmi and Shonde Enoch from Iba Housing Estate Senior Secondary School, District V; Agbowa Community Senior Grammar School – District III; and Ikosi Senior High School, Ikosi Ketu – District II, respectively, received cash and consolation prizes.
The #Greater Lagos STEM Quiz Competition is a testament to the commitment of the Lagos State Government to promote STEM Education in schools.
