Social media activist VeryDarkMan has come under criticism from an Igbo man, Tochukwu Harrison Mmaduboallor, following his recent visit to China.
The backlash was sparked by a series of videos VDM posted while touring various suppliers and manufacturers in the Asian country.
Mr. Mmaduboallor accused VeryDarkMan of attempting to undermine the businesses of Igbo traders in the region, alleging that his activities could harm their livelihoods.
In a fiery online video, indigenous MC Tochukwu leveled accusations against controversial influencer VeryDarkMan, claiming his actions were negatively impacting the businesses of Igbo men in China
This response follows VeryDarkMan’s release of videos showing his visits to various companies in China, where he stated his goal was to connect Chinese manufacturers with Nigerian consumers.
However, Tochukwu criticized the move, claiming it revealed trade secrets that many Igbo businessmen in China rely on to sustain their businesses. He emphasized that the success of these enterprises is largely built on maintaining strict confidentiality.
“Business thrives on secrecy,” Tochukwu stated. “Genuine businessmen don’t reveal their suppliers to their customers.”
He stressed that it would be unreasonable for a trader to spend over ₦2 million on a flight home, only to risk selling goods in a way that could undermine their profits.
Tochukwu also shed light on the struggles many Igbo men face in China, noting that some even sleep on the streets in pursuit of a better livelihood.
He concluded by emphasizing that Igbo men have the strongest presence among Nigerian traders in China, more than any other ethnic group, and warned that VDM’s actions could disproportionately impact their businesses.
