Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities at Tai Solarin Federal University of Education, Ijagun, Adewale Ositoye, and his counterpart from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Ola Oyedele, along with a reliable source from the leadership of the union at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, confirmed on Monday that the three institutions have participated in the ongoing national strike as mandated by the union’s national leadership.

Ositoye stated that his colleagues at TASUED, in adherence to the national directive from ASUU, have refrained from entering lecture halls until the conclusion of the 14-day warning strike that commenced on Monday, October 13.

When further pressed to comment on the strike, the ASUU leader remarked, “There is little more to convey aside from executing the warning strike as sanctioned by national ASUU, with the reasons for this articulated in the press conference previously conducted by the national organization. ”

Oyedele from FUNAAB similarly confirmed, “I can only affirm that my colleagues at the university have aligned with the national strike, and any additional inquiries should be directed to the ASUU national body. ”

A prominent figure within the ASUU executives from OOU, who requested anonymity, also stated to the media that the university is compelled to adhere to the national directive issued by the ASUU leadership.

The source indicated, “This is a nationwide strike; we are all aware of the prevailing issues, the lecturers at OOU are no exception, we are collectively dissatisfied with the current circumstances, and we have joined the national strike. ”

Two students from FUNAAB, Benjamin Okoli and Temiloluwa Timothy, expressed to reporters their concerns regarding the disruption the industrial action would cause to the academic calendar of the institution.

Okoli commented, “Strikes often bring significant repercussions for students; they interrupt the smooth progression of the academic session. One could end up taking five years or more to complete a four-year program.

“The students are dissatisfied, and we genuinely hope and pray that ASUU and the government will amicably resolve their differences to allow normal academic activities to resume without interruptions. ”

On Sunday, ASUU declared a two-week total and comprehensive warning strike across all public universities in Nigeria due to the Federal Government’s failure to fulfill its demands.

The declaration was made by the National President of the Union, Chris Piwuna, during a press briefing in Abuja at the University of Abuja.

“It is evident that there is no substantial action in place to prevent the execution of ASUU-NEC’s resolution to initiate a two-week warning strike following the 14-day notice given on September 28, 2025.

“Therefore, all branches of ASUU are hereby instructed to suspend their services starting from midnight on Monday, October 13, 2025.

“The warning strike will be total and comprehensive as agreed upon in the last NEC meeting,” Piwuna stated.
