The Oyo State Administration has issued a fortnight ultimatum to vendors operating along Airport Road, Old Ife Road, and Onipepeye regions of Ibadan to vacate the roadside or face enforcement measures.

This directive was articulated in a statement released on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde, Dr. Suleimon Olanrewaju.

He cautioned that the state will no longer endure roadside commerce or the installation of container shops on drainage systems.

Per the statement, “the government has established markets and other designated areas for commerce throughout the city, rendering it unnecessary and unsafe for vendors to occupy roadways. ”

The administration asserted that the action is essential to protect lives, avert environmental hazards, and preserve public infrastructure.

It also cautioned that trading on walkways and obstructing drainage channels heightens the risk of flooding and undermines the state’s endeavors to enhance tourism.

“The government bears the responsibility to shield citizens from all forms of danger,” the statement emphasized, highlighting that roadside commerce exposes individuals to significant threats.

The ultimatum concludes on October 27, after which enforcement actions will commence.

The administration affirmed that “failure to comply may result in the seizure of goods and legal action against violators. ”

It appealed for collaboration from residents to ensure a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable environment within the state.
