The Lagos State Government has intervened in the case of a young woman who reportedly moved her belongings to the Nigeria Police Force – Panti Division in Yaba, seeking accommodation due to excessive heat.

The incident went viral on social media after an X user shared that the woman had booked an Uber ride from Lekki to Panti for ₦15,000, claiming she wanted to “file a case” because the sun was too hot.

According to the post, the driver, shocked by her reason, recounted that it was his first job of the day, expressing confusion about how to distinguish between someone “normal” and someone experiencing mental distress.

Days later, the same X user provided an update, revealing that the woman had returned to the station, insisting she wanted to rent an apartment there. He said she slept outside the station overnight with her bags packed and refused to return home.

“This girl has come again today, saying she wants to rent an apartment in Panti. She slept outside all through without going home after coming to report that the sun was too hot. Her bags full of clothes are outside Panti; please, she really needs help,” he wrote.

The user further explained that the woman had inconvenienced police officers and ride-hailing drivers by repeatedly traveling between Ajah and Panti. One police officer reportedly paid for her ride home, but she later booked another ride and returned to the station.

Following the public outcry, the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, led by Commissioner Mobolaji Ogunlende, intervened to rescue the woman and assess her situation.

In an update shared on X, Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, confirmed the government’s action.

“UPDATE: The Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development under the leadership of Hon. @Mo_ogunlende have gone to Panti to rescue the young lady and conduct necessary findings on her case,” Gawat wrote.

The state government has not yet disclosed further details on the woman’s identity or medical condition but assured that she is now receiving the needed care and attention.
