PERMANENT SECRETARY SEEKS IMPROVED STRUCTURE FOR MONTHLY PROFESSIONAL TRAINING OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS CADRE

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr. Olanrewaju Bajulaiye, has proposed a review of the modalities for the monthly in-house professional training for Public Affairs Officers in the State Public Service.
Mr. Bajulaiye made the proposal on Friday during a meeting in his office with the organising committee of the monthly professional training, comprising some Directors from the Public Affairs cadre who are responsible for coordinating the sessions.
He emphasised that the sessions must continue to meet their core objectives of enhancing capacity, fostering professional knowledge exchange, and promoting stronger interpersonal engagement among officers within the Public Affairs cadre.
Bajulaiye noted that since the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, the training sessions have been conducted virtually via Zoom, a model which now requires reassessment to improve participation, strengthen professional bonding, and create opportunities for spontaneous feedback on issues affecting the officers across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
According to him, “While the virtual format helped sustain knowledge sharing during the pandemic, the challenge of limited engagement and time constraints will be adequately reversed with physical meetings and this will help the overall impact of the initiative.”
The Permanent Secretary further disclosed that going forward, the professional training meetings will not only focus on capacity development but also serve as an avenue for Public Affairs Officers to submit monthly activity reports and periodically review their performance across MDAs.
He urged officers to accord the monthly professional training the seriousness it deserves, describing it as a strategic government investment in their personal and professional growth.
Mr. Bajulaiye also announced that the October edition of the training, earlier scheduled for Wednesday, October 29, 2025, has been postponed to Wednesday, November 5, 2025, due to pressing state engagements.
He added that the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, is expected to deliver an opening remark to motivate the officers at the training session.
In her remarks, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Mrs. Bolanle Ogunlola, welcomed the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry and briefed him on the milestones achieved through the monthly training sessions over the years.
She assured that adequate arrangements have been made to make future training more seamless, impactful, and participatory.
Other members of the organising committee present at the meeting included the Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Ministry of Housing, Mr. Ganiu Lawal; Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mrs. Temilade Aruya; Director of Public Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Mr. Leke Quadri, and Public Affairs Officer, Office of the First Lady, Mr. Ayomileleyi Afuwape.
