LAGOS WOMEN RUN: A PROGRAMME THAT CELEBRATES WOMEN’S STRENGTH, RESILIENCE – LSSC

The Director-General, Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Lekan Fatodu, has described the ‘Lagos Women Run’ as a platform that celebrates the strength, resilience, and limitless potential of women as Lagos Women Run marks its 10th anniversary. He said Lagos
is honoured to continue serving as the home of a movement that transcends sports and touches every facet of society.
Speaking at a press briefing heralding the historic 10th anniversary of the LWR held recently at the Conference Room of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Fatodu disclosed that, “This year’s theme ‘One run a thousand opportunities’ is both symbolic and timely as
it reminds us that a single heart of running can open countless doors for self discovery, inclusion and the collective progress of women in our society.”
The DG of LSSC explained that every stride taken by women symbolizes the many opportunities available to them, adding that it also reflects the boundless capacity of women to create and impact in every sphere of life.
Fatodu highlighted that over the years, the Lagos women’s run has evolved from a modest effort to promote fitness among women into one of the most recognizable and unifying events for women across Nigeria and beyond.
Coordinator, Lagos Women Run, Tayo Poopola, said the initiative is to celebrate its 10th anniversary, drawing women from various parts of the world.
“This milestone signifies the event’s sustainability, largely attributed to the support from the Lagos State Government. The event aims to celebrate women and their achievements. The theme for this year’s event is ‘ONE RUN, A THOUSAND OPPORTUNITIES.’
U-meleni Mhlaba Adebo, the ambassador for the Lagos Women 2025 10km, participated in the previous edition of the race and is back for the 10th year.
“My first experience in Lagos and running the race last year as a Zimbabwean married to a Yoruba man it was an incredible opportunity to get to know the city”.
