Gunmen have abducted the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Hon. Samaila Bagudu, in his hometown, Bagudu Local Government Area of the state.

According to local sources, the assailants stormed Bagudu town on Friday evening, firing sporadically to create panic. The deputy speaker was reportedly seized shortly after observing his Friday prayers and leaving the mosque for his residence.

Witnesses said the attackers operated swiftly before fleeing the scene with their victim.

Confirming the incident, the Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Government, Ahmed Idris, said that Bagudu was indeed abducted, adding that security agencies had launched efforts to rescue him.

Attempts to obtain additional information from the Kebbi State Police Command were unsuccessful as officials were yet to release a formal statement on the development.

The abduction has heightened tension in the area, as residents call for increased security presence amid rising concerns over the spate of kidnappings in the North-West region.
