The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Friday conducted a Computer-Based Test (CBT) for junior staff under the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoS) in Abuja.

The exercise, held at Ade-Ola International School, Kubwa, was part of the Federal Government’s efforts to promote transparency and merit in the civil service promotion process.

A total of 476 officers were expected to participate in the test, but 450 were present and took part in the exercise. The examination was held in two sessions — morning and afternoon — to accommodate all participants.

According to the Director of JAMB’s Abuja Zonal Office, Hajia Zainab Hamzat, the assessment was a third-party examination organised for promotional purposes across junior cadres under the Office of the Head of Service. She said the test also covered personnel from paramilitary agencies such as the Immigration, Fire Service, and Civil Defence.

Hamzat commended the smooth conduct of the examination, noting that it reflected JAMB’s commitment to maintaining high standards in all its operations.

Similarly, the Director of Ade-Ola International School, Mercy Olaosegbe, expressed satisfaction with JAMB’s professionalism during the exercise. She explained that only centres that meet the board’s technical and infrastructural requirements are approved to host such examinations.

The initiative marks another step towards the digital transformation of public service assessments in Nigeria. It also aligns with the federal government’s broader policy direction towards adopting computer-based testing for all official examinations, including those conducted by WAEC and NECO.

The results of the CBT are expected to guide subsequent promotion decisions for the participating civil servants.
