NAF SHAKE-UP: AIR CHIEF ANEKE APPOINTS NEW COMMANDERS, PRINCIPAL OFFICERS
In a significant reorganisation aimed at strengthening operational efficiency, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced the appointment of new principal officers, branch chiefs, Air Officers Commanding (AOCs), and unit commanders.
The changes were approved by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Sunday Kelvin Aneke, as part of efforts to reposition the Service for enhanced performance and national security delivery.
According to a statement issued by the NAF Directorate of Public Relations and Information, the appointments affect several senior officers across key commands and formations. The exercise is designed to inject fresh ideas into the system and promote capable hands to strategic leadership roles.
The reshuffle follows the recent appointment of AVM Aneke as the 23rd Chief of the Air Staff by President Bola Tinubu. Since assuming office, the new Air Chief has pledged to reform the Air Force’s operational structure and improve coordination with other security agencies.

AVM Aneke, in his inaugural remarks, assured Nigerians that the NAF would “leave no stone unturned in bringing about swift improvement in the nation’s security.” He also reaffirmed the Service’s loyalty to the President and the Constitution, while stressing the importance of discipline, professionalism, and teamwork among officers and airmen.
The latest appointments come at a time when the Nigerian military is undergoing broader leadership adjustments to strengthen joint operations and tackle the country’s complex security challenges. Analysts say the new structure will improve decision-making, boost morale among personnel, and enhance the efficiency of air operations nationwide.
The restructuring is also expected to improve synergy among the Air Force, Army, Navy, and other security agencies in combating insurgency, banditry, and other threats to national stability.
AVM Aneke has consistently emphasized personnel welfare and institutional reform as top priorities, noting that a “motivated force is essential to achieving operational efficiency.”
The newly appointed commanders are expected to assume their various roles immediately and work toward improving the Service’s combat readiness, intelligence capabilities, and response time in critical missions.
Observers say the effectiveness of the shake-up will become evident in the coming months as the NAF executes major operations and reforms under its new leadership structure.
The CAS, while congratulating the newly appointed officers, urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them and remain focused on the Air Force’s core mandate of defending Nigeria’s airspace and supporting ground operations.
