The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man, Anas Dauda, of Jalingo B area, Lamorde Ward in Mubi South Local Government Area, for unlawful possession of a firearm.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Yola, following the circulation of a viral video showing the suspect displaying an AK-47 rifle loaded with three magazines while making threatening remarks and boasting that he could sell or lease the weapon.

“The video, which caused panic and fear among residents, was promptly brought to the attention of the Command,” the statement read.

Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, ordered operatives from the Mubi South Divisional Police Headquarters, led by the Divisional Police Officer, to trace and apprehend the suspect.

According to the police, Dauda was successfully arrested at a remote location in Mubi town.

Nguroje added that investigations are ongoing to recover the firearm seen in the video and trace its source.

The Commissioner of Police has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case for discreet investigation and prosecution.

Morris assured the public of the Command’s continued commitment to protecting lives and property, warning individuals and groups against acts that could breach public peace or contravene the law.
