As part of activities marking the 70th anniversary of women in the Nigeria Police Force, female officers of the Lagos State Police Command on Thursday embarked on courtesy visits to prominent retired female police chiefs and carried out a school outreach in Yaba.

Led by ACP Mary Ayim, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Administration), the delegation visited retired Deputy Inspectors-General of Police, DIG Florence Adebanjo and DIG Cecilia Adebisi Ugowe.

DIG Adebanjo was enlisted as a recruit and rose to become a Cadet Inspector and later the first female Commissioner of Police of Western Port, Lagos. DIG Ugowe, also a former Cadet Inspector, made history as the first Force Secretary.

In celebration of the landmark milestone, the female officers also visited Onike Girls Junior High School, Sabo, Yaba, where they conducted an outreach centered on self-awareness, mental health, career guidance, gender-based violence, and confidence building among students.

Gifts were presented to students and teachers during the visit.

SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Police Public Relations Officer for Lagos State Command, described the event as a reaffirmation of the police force’s commitment to empowering young girls and honouring trailblazing women who paved the way in policing.

The activities were held on Thursday, November 27, 2025, in Lagos.
