The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has celebrated Captain Adebanke Osilaja for making aviation history by becoming the first Nigerian female pilot to attain captaincy at any United States legacy airline.

In a congratulatory message issued in Abuja on Friday, the Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, described Osilaja’s achievement as a “remarkable breakthrough” and a proud moment for Nigeria. She noted that reaching such a prestigious milestone in one of America’s major carriers demonstrates outstanding expertise, resilience, and professionalism.

Dabiri-Erewa stated that Captain Osilaja’s accomplishment would inspire young Nigerians, particularly girls pursuing careers in aviation and other traditionally male-dominated industries.

“Her success is a powerful source of motivation for thousands of young Nigerians across the world who dream big,” Dabiri-Erewa said.

The NiDCOM chief also wished Capt. Osilaja continued success in her aviation career.

It will be recalled that Capt. Osilaja was among the honourees at the 2025 National Diaspora Merit Awards held in Abuja in July.

The statement was signed by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocol Unit, NiDCOM.
