Actress Regina Daniels’ mother, Rita Daniels, has lost the presidential election of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN).
Rita was defeated during the election held on Saturday at the Guild’s Annual General Meeting in Benin City, Edo State.
She lost to the AGN National Secretary, actor Abubakar Yakubu, who has now succeeded Emeka Rollas as the new President of the Guild.
Yakubu polled 116 votes to narrowly defeat Rita, who secured 113 votes, while three ballots were declared invalid.
With this victory, Yakubu becomes the first Northern actor to emerge as AGN President since the Guild’s establishment in the 1990s.
The outcome comes weeks after the outgoing president, Emeka Rollas, publicly advised Rita Daniels to focus on her daughter, Regina Daniels, rather than pursuing the AGN presidency.
