The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Monday announced that its Special Investigative Panel has concluded investigations into 16 officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces alleged to have committed acts of indiscipline, breaches of service regulations, and other violations. The officers are now set to face a military Court Martial.

Major General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the panel examined all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected personnel. Some of the allegations reportedly include plotting to overthrow the government — actions described as inconsistent with the ethics, values, and professional standards expected of members of the Armed Forces.

“These measures are purely disciplinary and part of internal institutional mechanisms to preserve discipline, cohesion, and operational effectiveness within the ranks,” Major Gen Uba said. He also reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ commitment to professionalism, loyalty, and respect for constitutional authority, assuring that due process and fairness will be strictly observed throughout the proceedings.

The officers were first arrested in October 2025. They include a Brigadier-General, a Colonel, four Lieutenant Colonels, five Majors, two Captains, a Lieutenant, a Navy Lieutenant Commander, and an Air Force Squadron Leader. Most belong to the Infantry, Signals, and Ordnance Corps.

The officers in custody are:

Brigadier General: Musa Abubakar Sadiq (Nasarawa, 44th Regular Course)

Colonel: M.A. Ma’aji (Niger, 47th Course)

Lieutenant Colonels: S. Bappah (Bauchi, 56th Course), A.A. Hayatu (Kaduna, 56th Course), Dangnan (Plateau, 56th Course), M. Almakura (Nasarawa, 56th Course)

Majors: A.J. Ibrahim (Gombe, 56th Course), M.M. Jiddah (Katsina, 56th Course), M.A. Usman (FCT, 60th Course), D. Yusuf (Gombe, 59th Course), I. Dauda (Jigawa, DSSC 38)

Captains: I. Bello (DSSC 43), A.A. Yusuf

Lieutenant: S.S. Felix (DSSC)

Lieutenant Commander (Navy): D.B. Abdullahi

Squadron Leader (Air Force): S.B. Adamu

The DHQ said the proceedings are part of ongoing efforts to maintain discipline, operational efficiency, and accountability within the Nigerian Armed Forces.
