The Lagos State Government has assured residents and motorists of uninterrupted vehicular movement and enhanced public safety during the ongoing rehabilitation of the 20-kilometre Lekki–Epe Expressway.

The assurance was given by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr. Sola Giwa, in a statement issued on Tuesday, noting that the rehabilitation project is scheduled to last 64 days.

Giwa said comprehensive and strategically coordinated traffic management measures have been put in place to minimise inconvenience throughout the construction period, stressing that the expressway would not be closed at any point.

“Traffic control interventions will be tactically concentrated at critical intersections to minimise disruption and sustain seamless vehicular movement along the corridor,” he stated.

He explained that traffic management strategies would be implemented in phases, with over 305 operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) deployed across three existing traffic zones along the axis.

According to him, the expanded deployment is designed to ensure smooth traffic flow, rapid response to incidents, and strict enforcement of traffic regulations.

Giwa acknowledged the rising traffic volume on the Lekki–Epe corridor, attributing it to major economic and infrastructural developments such as the Lekki Deep Sea Port, Lekki Free Trade Zone and the Dangote Refinery.

“These developments have significantly increased traffic demand along the axis,” he said.

He disclosed that LASTMA has deployed a range of recovery vehicles, including high-, medium- and low-capacity tow trucks, to ensure the prompt removal of broken-down vehicles and prevent traffic build-up.

The special adviser also revealed that advanced drone technology would be deployed for real-time aerial monitoring of traffic conditions and incidents along the expressway and other strategic locations.

Giwa confirmed that directional signage, adequate lighting and other safety measures have been installed to enhance road safety during the rehabilitation works.

He added that operatives of the Rapid Response Squad and the Kick Against Indiscipline unit have been deployed to reinforce security and protect lives and property.

Motorists were advised to make use of approved alternative routes to reduce pressure on the construction corridor, with Giwa recommending the Coaster Road from Ogombo through Abraham Adesanya as a viable option.

He urged road users to exercise patience, comply with traffic regulations and cooperate with traffic officials.

“Collective discipline and cooperation are indispensable to the success of the rehabilitation and traffic management measures,” Giwa said.
