At least four people have been confirmed dead after a violent clash between armed Fulani herdsmen and residents of Ibaji Local Government Area in Kogi State.
The Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Comfort Ojoma Nwuchiola Egwaba, confirmed the fatalities in a statement issued in Lokoja on Monday. Egwaba, who represents Ibaji State Constituency, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, particularly in the Ejule Ojebe community.
“I am deeply saddened by reports of violent clashes between Ibaji communities—especially Ejule Ojebe—and Fulani herdsmen, which have tragically claimed lives in the area,” she said. “This painful incident has brought immense grief to the affected families and the entire community. I strongly condemn all acts of violence and stress that no disagreement should ever lead to the loss of innocent lives or disrupt peaceful coexistence.”
The lawmaker extended condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for strength and divine comfort during this difficult time.
“I urge security agencies and relevant authorities to act swiftly to restore peace, protect lives and property, and bring the perpetrators to justice. There is also an urgent need for lasting solutions to address the root causes of these tensions and prevent recurrence,” Egwaba added.
She further appealed to community leaders, youths, and residents to remain calm, cooperate with law enforcement, and avoid spreading unverified information that could escalate the situation.
“As your representative, I remain committed to working with the state government, security agencies, and traditional institutions to ensure the safety of our communities and the preservation of peace in Ibaji,” Egwaba stated, concluding with prayers for God’s comfort for the bereaved families and lasting peace in the affected areas.
