EBONYI SECURITY COUNCIL ORDERS RECOVERY OF SEVERED HEAD, SLAIN RESIDENTS, EXTENDS CURFEW

The Ebonyi State Government Security Council has asked for the recovery of severed heads of people who were killed in the Okporojo community in Oso-Edda within 72 hours. This comes after the killings on January 29 that resulted in the deaths of four people.
The order was given in a statement released after a high–level security meeting that took place on Monday.
A statement from the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Monday Uzor, said that the council looked at the security reports about the attack and decided to strengthen previous actions to stop more problems with law and order.
“After the high profile meeting comprised of the Commandant, 24 Support Engineering Regiment, Nkwagu Military Cantonment, Command, Army Women Corps, State Director, State Security Services, Commandant Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps and Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Command, Ebonyi Founding Fathers Council, Ebonyi State Elders Council and members of the State Executive Council, the Council considered the state of affairs in the state regarding the 29th January gory fate that greeted the Okporojo Community in Oso-Edda. The Council considered security reports on the Killings at Okporojo, Oso Edda,” the statement read.

The council upheld the continued enforcement of a curfew in the affected communities.
“The Council upheld continued enforcement of these measures chief of which include curfews of 2pm to 10 am,” it stated.
It also issued a 72-hour ultimatum regarding the severed heads of the slain victims.
“The Council insisted that all the severed heads of slain members of the Okporojo Community by the Amasiri warlords MUST be recovered by the Amasiri people within the next 72 hours,” the communiqué said.
In addition, the council directed that four abducted members of the Okporojo community be released within three days.
“The Council also directed that the abducted 4 members of Okporojo Community be released within 3 days,” it added.
The statement further noted that funeral arrangements would remain suspended pending compliance with the directives.
“The Council also put on hold all funeral arrangements being made by families of the slain victims pending the recovery of their severed heads.”
It warned that failure to comply would attract sanctions.
“The Council warned the Amasiri community to ensure strict adherence to the directives failure which attracts the full weight of the law,” the statement concluded.
The resolutions happen as security agencies are still looking into the killings, which are connected to a long–standing land disagreement between Okporojo in Oso-Edda, Edda Local Government Area, and Amasiri in Afikpo Local Government Area.
