The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested seven suspects over alleged involvement in armed robbery and cattle rustling, recovering stolen items and livestock valued at millions of naira in a major crime-fighting operation across the state.

Confirming the arrests in a statement on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Shi’isu Adam, said the breakthroughs were achieved through community-led policing and collaboration with sister security agencies and local vigilante groups.

According to him, on February 6, 2026, a joint patrol team arrested a 22-year-old suspect, Ahmed Musa, in Taura Local Government Area with items suspected to be proceeds of crime, including mobile phones, ATM cards and cash. The suspect is believed to be a member of a syndicate involved in armed robbery and housebreaking in Taura town and surrounding communities.

In a separate operation, detectives from the Ringim Division arrested four armed robbery suspects, including 20-year-old Abdullahi Danladi. Items recovered from the suspects included two Moniepoint POS machines, an MP4 device and several ATM cards.

SP Adam disclosed that the police recovered a total of two POS machines, seven cows, nine sheep, five mobile phones, five ATM cards and cash from the suspects during the operations. All the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.

The police spokesperson also revealed that officers intercepted a 20-year-old suspect, Isa Alhaji Sabo, with seven cows suspected to have been rustled from Rangwam and Alwashi communities in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area. The suspect reportedly confessed to conspiring with two accomplices, who are currently at large.

Similarly, another suspect, Adamu Babare, 24, was arrested in connection with the theft of 11 animals, nine of which were successfully recovered.

Quoting the Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, SP Adam said the commissioner commended the officers involved in the operations and reassured residents of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.

The commissioner urged members of the public to continue to cooperate with the police by providing timely and credible information to support crime prevention and detection.

“The Jigawa State Police Command remains resolute in ensuring a peaceful and secure environment for all residents,” SP Adam added, stressing that all arrested suspects would be prosecuted accordingly.
