Two Islamic clerics have been remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre in Akure, Ondo State, over allegations of inflicting grievous injuries on two minors in their custody.

The suspects, Adebodun Muideen, 30, of Al-Balaagul-Mubeen Arabic and Islamic Centre, and Oladejo Musiliu, 35, of Abdullah Arabic and Islamic Centre, Owo, were arraigned before the Magistrate Family Court in Akure on a three-count charge of assault and child abuse.

According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, Daniel Aidamenbor, the clerics were arrested on January 28, 2026, following a petition filed by a child rights advocacy group, Kids and Teen Resource Centre. The petition alleged that the minors sustained multiple visible injuries as a result of severe assault in Owo.
