EFCC NABS 20 IN FCT ELECTION FRAUD CASE, RECOVERS OVER N20 MILLION

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 20 individuals over alleged electoral offences during the recently concluded Federal Capital Territory local government elections.
The commission also seized more than N20 million, reportedly intended for vote buying.
In a statement posted on its official X account on Sunday, the EFCC confirmed that the arrests took place on Saturday, February 21, 2026, across the FCT.
The suspects were apprehended in Abaji (2), Gwagwalada (9), Kuje (4), and Kwali (4), the commission added.

“Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Saturday, February 21, 2026, arrested 20 individuals for various electoral offences during the recently concluded Federal Capital Territory (FCT) local government elections.
“The suspects were apprehended across the FCT for offences including vote buying, vote selling, and obstruction of election officials, involving a total of N17,218,700 (Seventeen Million, Two Hundred and Eighteen Thousand, Seven Hundred Naira only).”
“One of the suspects was apprehended in Kwali Local Government Area with N13,500,000 (Thirteen Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira) found in a car parked near a polling station.”
“Two suspects were arrested in Abaji, nine in Gwagwalada, four in Kuje, and the remaining four in Kwali,” the statement said.

The commission said the suspects would be arraigned in court after the completion of investigations.
The February 21 elections, conducted across the six FCT area councils Abaji, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Kwali, and Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) were marred by reports of voter inducements.
Election observers, including representatives from the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD-West Africa), recorded instances of cash offers ranging from ₦1,000 to ₦5,000 per voter at several polling units, particularly in Gwagwalada and Kuje.
Declared results on Sunday by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) showed the All Progressives Congress (APC) winning five of the six chairmanship seats, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) captured one.
