The International Facility Management Association Nigeria has officially launched its Oyo State branch, marking a major step toward modernising the built environment in South-west Nigeria.
The expansion reflects a move away from traditional “break-fix” maintenance toward data-driven smart infrastructure and strategic asset management.
According to a statement released on Sunday, the branch inauguration coincided with the association’s first strategic meeting of 2026, held at the Nigerian Society of Engineers Secretariat in Ibadan.
The event brought together National Executive Council members and key industry stakeholders committed to elevating professional standards and practices across the region.
Delivering the keynote address, Engr Sheriff Daramola, President of the IFMA Nigeria Chapter, highlighted the vital connection between professional facility management and national economic development.
“IFMA members hold key positions across federal, state, and private institutions. IFMA Nigeria is strategically positioned to ensure our professionals are the preferred choice for global investors entering the Nigerian market,” Daramola said.
He added that with a global network of 25,000 members spanning 140 countries, the new Oyo branch is well placed to adapt international standards locally, ensuring infrastructure in the Pacesetter State meets modern, 21st-century global benchmarks.
Supporting the president’s vision, Barr. Sola Fatoki, Legal Adviser of IFMA Nigeria, emphasized the interdisciplinary nature of facility management.
“Since 1997, the association has equipped facility management professionals with integrated expertise spanning human behaviour, infrastructure, and the built environment. We encourage engineers, architects, surveyors, and technology innovators to view IFMA as their professional home,” Fatoki said.
This commitment to innovation is reflected in IFMA’s record of training over 3,000 members nationwide. To advance smart infrastructure, the association recently partnered with the Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board, providing 40 technical graduates with advanced digital skills and mentorship.
The newly inaugurated coordinator for the Oyo Branch, ESV. Adejumo Babatunde, accepted the role with a pledge to unify professionals in the region.
“We are grateful to the national council for this opportunity to serve. Our focus will be on unity and professional advancement for all stakeholders, ensuring the success of the branch and the growth of the industry in Oyo State,” he said.
Babatunde will lead the branch alongside Engr Ajiboye Akeem (Secretary) and Mrs Adeniran Olaide (Treasurer). The committee is tasked with cultivating a pipeline of globally certified experts holding FMP, CFM, and SFP credentials to oversee the evolving infrastructure landscape in the state.
