Norbert Maiksner, 49, has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 24 years for the murder of his 45-year-old Nigerian girlfriend, Frances Obiefuleh, whose face he bound with tape in Havant, Hampshire, in April last year.

He was convicted at Portsmouth Crown Court on Friday on charges of murder and child cruelty, and formally sentenced on Monday.

Obiefuleh’s body was discovered after Maiksner approached a highways officer on the M40 in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, and confessed, asking the officer to alert the police. Authorities said he later told officers the incident felt like “a dream” and that he wanted to wake up.

During sentencing, Mr Justice Murray noted that no punishment could truly reflect the value of the victim’s life or ease the profound grief experienced by her loved ones.

Prosecutor Paul Cavin KC told the court that a post-mortem examination revealed Obiefuleh died from suffocation, with injuries linked to pressure applied to her neck and chest.

The trial, which began on March 15, lasted two weeks, although Maiksner reportedly refused to attend court proceedings or participate in his defence.

In a tribute, Obiefuleh’s family described her as kind, intelligent, and devoted, remembering her as a loving mother, sister, aunt, and friend who touched many lives.
