O. In Kebbi, the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) has shut down 305 pharmacies and patent medicine outlets for different violations. Mr Stephen Esumobi, the PCN Director Enforcement, mentioned this while briefing Newsmen on Friday in Birnin Kebbi, on behalf of Mr Elijah Mohammed, the Council’s Registrar. The Council sealed 285 patent medicine stores and 20 pharmacies, according to Mr Mohammed. He claimed that the widespread presence of unregistered medicine shops was a major impediment to the sensible distribution and use of medicine. Also, as part of its attempts to achieve its goal and to reverse the terrible situation, the PCN established Pharmaceutical Inspection Committees (PICs) and patent and proprietary medicine vendor licenses throughout states, he said. However, Mohammed stated that the PCN enforcement team was in the state to ensure that all locations where medicine was sold met the legal requirements.
