2023 ELECTIONS: BUHARI AND INEC CHAIR MEET AT STATE HOUSE
By Adeniyi Onaara
On Wednesday, with just over 48 hours to the Presidential and National Assembly elections, President Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) met with the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, at the State House in Abuja.
According to a source, the unplanned meeting was called at the request of INEC Chairman, who emphasized that it was all part of the organization’s efforts to ensure free, fair, and credible elections.
Earlier, Buhari disclosed that he met Yakubu while justifying his late arrival for the Coalition Against Covid-19’s inauguration and handover of security equipment valued at over N12 billion to the military and Nigeria Police Force.
The President told the CACOVID-19 group that his five-minute delay was due to an ongoing engagement with the INEC Chairman.
He did, however, remind the team that the meeting was to ensure a successful election.
“I’m being grounded by INEC,” Buhari stated.
You know, next Saturday is a great day for us, and I follow INEC’s instructions to ensure that there are no excuses for a successful election.”
