SEUN KUTI’S TRIAL STALLED DUE TO ABSENCE OF MAGISTRATE
By Aishat Momoh and Adeniyi Onaara
The absence of Yaba Magistrates’ Court Chief Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun has further stalled the hearing of Afrobeat Musician Seun Kuti.
In the absence of the chief Magistrate, Olatunbosun, the registrar, Mr Babalola, informed the court that the case has been adjourned till September 27, 2023, for the continuation of the proceeding.
Magistrate Olatunbosun was supposed to have resumed her administrative leave today, thus she was not in court.
HOTJIST.COM previously revealed that the Afrobeat musician was arrested by the Lagos State Police Command on May 16, 2023.
The defendant was charged with assault on a police officer, a violation of Nigerian Criminal Code Act Section 356.
Meanwhile, on May 24, Magistrate Olatunbosun ruled that the police could not be both the complainant and the prosecutor in the case. As a result, she sought the DPP’s advice on whether the prosecution should be continued.
“I need the DPP’s advice to know whether he should be prosecuted or not,” she stated.
As a result, she postponed the case to July 3, 2023, to await the DPP’s advice.
However, the case was deferred again today for the continuation of the proceedings due to the absence of Magistrate Olatunbosun.
