11 FOREIGNERS ENGAGED IN ILLEGAL MINING HAVE BEEN ARRESTED IN TARABA

Foreign nationals from Burkina Faso make up eleven of the twenty-one suspected illegal miners who have been charged before a special court in Taraba State.
Their trial was delayed owing to a language problem after they were taken into custody at a mining site in Dogon-Yatsu, in the Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State.
Governor Kefas Agbu of Taraba State’s continuing campaign against illegal mining and deforestation is now showing the expected results.
To beat up the illegal miners in their games, the special task force led by Brigadier General Jeremiah Faransa (Rtd) has built up its own game.
The leaders of the illegal miners who were recently apprehended at Dogon-Yatsu, in the state’s Bali Local Government Area, are appearing before this special court.
The court was unable to continue because 11 of the 21 defendants, who are foreigners from Burkina Faso, asserted that they did not speak the court’s language.
The defendants claimed that neither English nor any other Nigerian language used in court proceedings could be understood by them.
Nierus Johnson, the prosecuting attorney, sought the court to remand the defendants pending the identification of a qualified interpreter who could translate court proceedings into the Burkinabe language known as “Mursi.”
The case was postponed by the court until September 6 in the interest of justice and a fair hearing.
The accused and defendants’ councils shared their opinions.
Some state people want the federal and state governments to work together to stop illegal miners’ activities across the nation.
Governor Kefas Agbu discussed the reasons behind his executive order to halt all mining operations in the state.
The state’s ecosystem has been protected by the efforts of the special task force on illegal mining and deforestation, which is led by General Jeremiah Faransa (Rtd).
